PWHL Toronto Sceptres
Commission by PWHL Toronto Sceptres to design an illustration for the unveiling of the Toronto Sceptres' new logo and branding identity. The illustration was displayed at the Bata Shoe Museum as part of an Art x Sneaker grand opening event (of their new exhibition).
ABOUT THE DESIGN: the intention behind this illustration is to celebrate Toronto's vibrant culture and diverse communities by transforming the sceptre into the CN Tower with the skyline as a backdrop, enriched by the elements of daily life in the city. The paint splatter symbolizes the growth of women's hockey, highlighting the emergence of new athletes through the PWHL and Toronto Sceptres, while also depicting the intersection of art, culture, sport, and history. To honour nature and Indigenous heritage, I included a turtle at the bottom of the paint splatter, representing Canada as Turtle Island, alongside a loon. At the heart of the piece are two figures: a young girl gazing at skates, embodying dreams of becoming a professional athlete, and a professional woman player reflecting that dream's attainability. My hope is that this illustration inspires both current and future generations, emphasizing that the beauty of sport is rooted in aspirations and that with the growth of women's hockey, we can all achieve our dreams.
